Notice Affording an Opportunity for Public Hearing - Loop 1604

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is offering the opportunity to request a public hearing covering the social, economic, and environmental effects of the proposed expansion of Loop 1604 from Potranco Road (Farm to Market [FM] 1957) to FM 471 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. The length of the proposed project is approximately 4.1 miles. This project was initially evaluated with a State Environmental Assessment (EA) and a public hearing was conducted; however, based on the recent inclusion of federal funding, this document has been prepared in accordance with the procedural provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
Any interested citizen may request a public hearing covering the social, economic and environmental effects of the proposed location and design for this project. Requests for a public hearing must be submitted in writing on or before Oct. 27, 2015 to the Director of Advanced Planning, Texas Department of Transportation, 4615 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, Texas, 78229.

ABCs of the MPO - What is a Record of Decision and an Environmental Impact Statement?

We've all heard these terms the last few years. US 281 is under going an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and we are glad that the Record of Decision (ROD) has been signed. But what do these terms really mean for the community?

As part of our continuing efforts to help demystify the transportation vocabulary, in this month's ABCs of the MPO, we will shed some light on how these two terms, EIS and ROD, have some big meaning for the region.

US 281 Record of Decision - Notice of Availability

The Alamo RMA is pleased to announce the availability of the Record of Decision (ROD) for the proposed improvements to US 281 North between Loop 1604 and Borgfeld Drive. The design phase of this project will begin in 2016, with construction anticipated to begin in mid-2017. Final financing details and fee structures are pending the results of a Traffic and Revenue Study and the outcome of Proposition 7, which will go before voters in November 2015. Bexar County and the Alamo RMA have asked TxDOT for additional funding to complete US 281 non-tolled. As we move forward in design and construction, please visit AlamoRMA.org for updates on the project.

Halfway through the Ozone Season, Alamo Area struggles to remain in compliance with Federal Ozone Standard

by Annette Prosterman, AACOG Natural Resources / Transportation Coordinator

July 15 marked the midway point in the Ozone Season; that time of year stretching from April through September when the area’s most prevalent form of air pollution, ozone, tends to spike.  At the midway milestone, the San Antonio-New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is in compliance with federal standards.  This, however, is a tenuous status, first because the season is only half over and second because those standards are about to change.

As San Antonio welcomes Fiesta 2015 with millions of people coming to visit our city for its rich cultural diversity and heritage, we want to encourage all participants to plan ahead for a designated driver.  Our highways and roadways will be filled with locals and tourists who have come to enjoy our great culture, so it is our desire for everyone who participates to arrive to and from their Fiesta destinations safely.

Designate that one person who has had no alcohol to be the hero for your celebration and arrive alive at Fiesta 2015.
