Alamo Call a Ride for Vets

Alamo Area Council of Governments Logo
If you know a Veteran in need of transportation, a new grant from the Texas Veterans Commission, in partnership with the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG), may be able to help.

For more information, or to find out if you are eligible for transportation service, please call the Alamo Service Connection at (210) 477-3275 or visit the website at www.aacog.com/carv.

This program is supported by a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans' Assistance. The Fund for Veterans' Assistance provides grants to organizations serving veterans and their families.

Who is Eligible?
Veterans, immediate family (spouse, under 18, or disabled adult living with the Veteran) Caregivers, and Surviving Spouses who have no means of transportation OR have medical needs that require you to have a driver.

Where can I go?

Our primary goal is to help those needing medical care or services first, but you can use the program to do almost anything, including:
1) Doctor Visits (not just to the V.A.)
2) Grocery Needs
3) Places of Worship
4) Paying Bills
5) Trips to a senior center or community agency

You can get a ride anywhere in the 13-county Alamo Region.
How does it work?

Eligible persons request rides by calling 210-362-5254 or 1-800-960-5201, or by emailing vetrides@askasc.org, or being referred by a social worker, case manager, or other advocate.

The rider completes the intake and assessment process, which includes providing basic information via phone interview and providing supporting information via fax or email to include a copy of the DD214, photo ID and other documents as may be requested.

The rider is approved and provided contact number for transportation provider in their area or assistance in scheduling a ride.

Riders are then able to have up to 3 trips free of charge.

For more information, and to help determine if you are eligible to take part in this service, please contact the Alamo Area Council of Governments at 210-477-3275.
