VIA’S ART CONTEST BEGINS MARCH 2

VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority

VIA Metropolitan Transit’s annual Youth Art Contest kicks off March 2, 2015, and all students in the San Antonio area are eligible to participate. This year’s theme is “VIA’s 20th Anniversary Youth Art Contest! Celebrating VIA’s Commitment to Community.”

Students can illustrate the theme using any medium as long as an official poster board is used. The 11”x17” poster boards are free and can be picked up beginning Monday, March 2 at VIA’s administration offices at 800 West Myrtle Street or at the VIA Metro Center at 1021 San Pedro Avenue.

VIA’s Youth Art Contest is open to all students in grades Pre-K through 12, and submissions will be accepted through April 10, 2015. The first place winner from each grade level will receive a $50 award, each second place winner will get a $25 award, and the Best of Show winner will receive a $250 award.

Each winner will also receive a backpack from the American Diabetes Association, two tickets to a movie at Santikos Theatres, and a $10 gift card from Walgreens along with school supplies. Winners will also be honored at an awards luncheon scheduled for May 14. The artwork of all the winners will be displayed on VIA’s Classroom on Wheels bus for one year, and the rest of the entries will be distributed throughout VIA’s fleet for the month of June 2015.

VIA’s Youth Art Contest is sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, Santikos Theatres, Clear Channel Outdoor, and Walgreens. For more information on the contest, visit www.viainfo.net or call Jerri Ann Jones at 299-5946.
