Let's (Bike) Rodeo!

Participants in an MPO supported Bike Rodeo
Have you ever taken part in a bike rodeo?

A bike rodeo is a bicycle skills event that gives young bicyclists a chance to practice their bicycle handling skills in a fun, noncompetitive atmosphere.

Using stations that emphasize different skills – from properly starting and stopping to entering a roadway and to learning to scan and signal – a bike rodeo educates kids (and parents) about avoiding common causes of crashes.

Successful rodeos can be as simple or elaborate as you have the volunteer resources to support.

MPO Staff helping out a Bike Rodeo Participant
If you are interested in putting on a bike rodeo, get started by talking to our bicycle and pedestrian transportation planner about your group and level of bicycling experience.

Through our Rodeo-in-a-Box program, we’ll provide guidance and all the chalk, traffic cones and props for you to put on a meaningful bicycle skills event geared toward kids age 5-12.

Thanks to funding from a TxDOT Safety Grant, children earn a free bike helmet to keep after the event (limit 25 helmets per event).
