SH 151 / Loop 410 Connector Moving Forward

Councilman Lopez at the groundbreaking.
On Friday, October 09, 2015, Alamo Area MPO Chairman Ray Lopez, San Antonio City Councilman District 6, joined with State Senator Jose Mendez (District 26), State Representative Ina Minjarez (District 124), and representatives from TxDOT and the local community to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Proposition 1 funded interchange connectors at SH 151 and Loop 410 in San Antonio.

Approved by voters in November 2014, Proposition 1 has provided the Alamo Area with approximately $147 Million in new non-toll projects during the last twelve months, with the SH 151 at Loop 410 connectors being the largest single project in the first year of funding. The SH 151 at Loop 410 connector project, which also includes an expansion of lanes on Loop 410 from SH 151 to Ingram Road as well as connections linking SH 151 and Loop 410, represents an almost $90 Million construction project for the region.

“This project and the start of construction for the relief for this part of our region shows how quickly we can get projects accomplished when all levels of government work together,” said Chairman Lopez. “Last year we started discussions with TxDOT about what projects could move forward if Prop 1 was approved by voters and today’s groundbreaking reflects the foresight and planning our region undertook to have projects shovel ready in anticipation of this new funding source.”

Williams Brothers Construction Company, the contractor for this project, anticipates a 2.5-year total construction time for all the improvements associated with this project, according to the Texas Department of Transportation San Antonio District office.
