19th Annual Walk & Roll Rally Recap

On Friday, May 1, 2015, over 200 people turned out to help the Alamo Area MPO celebrate the 19th Annual Walk & Roll Rally and kick off for the 59th annual National Bike Month.

The Walk & Roll Rally and National Bike Month help bring attention to the healthy transportation options available to the community, and to encourage everyone to try and incorporate these options into our daily commutes.

The Walk & Roll Rally featured remarks from Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor and VIA President and CEO Jeff Arndt, all of whom spoke about the importance of healthy transportation options and how our region benefits from providing choice in how people can travel. Judge Wolff and Mayor Taylor each presented proclamations celebrating Walk & Roll and National Bike Month to MPO Director Isidro Martinez as part of their remarks.

A highlight of the rally was the Walk & Roll Fashion Show featuring participants including Leon Valley Mayor Chris Riley, San Antonio Councilmembers Roberto Trevino, Shirley Gonzales and Ron Nirenberg, and members of the public with a passion for bicycling and walking. The fashion show included a little bit of everything - a rider dressed as a butterfly, a pedestrian showing how to stay safe and visible while walking, and some of the latest sporty fashion for cyclists. Check out some of the photos from the event here.

From the great music played by DJ Adolfo Torres, to the energy brought by MC Asia Ciaravino, CEO of The Playhouse San Antonio, to the appearance of nationally award winning custom made bikes from Wild Dawg, this year's Walk & Roll Rally helped kick off National Bike Month in style!

The MPO has also created a brief thank you video, which can be viewed below.
